COMMUNITY EDUCATION OPPORTUNITIES

Junction Center for Independent Living, Inc. provides many community opportunities for those without disabilities to learn more about those who do live independently with disabilities.

  • SENSITIVITY TRAINING
Training provided to various groups on the topics of living with a disability, disability etiquette, adaptive devices, and interacting with those who have a disability.  Sensitivity trainings are designed to raise awareness and provide a hands-on opportunity to experience using some adaptive devices and experiencing some of the barriers unwittingly raised to deny access.

  • MOTIVATIONAL WORKSHOPS
Motivating children with disabilities to instill a sense of confidence, self-worth, and self advocacy skills that will improve their life-long ability to interact with the community.

  • AMERICANS WITH DISABILITIES ACT (ADA)
In conjunction with the LENOWISCO Disability Services Board, JCIL provides information about the various rights and accommodations required under the landmark civil rights legislation enacted in 1992.  The primary focus is the removal of barriers within the community to ensure maximum inclusion and participation by persons with disabilities.

  • JCIL OUTREACH
Informational workshops and participation in community events and festivals to inform the public of the value of the services provided by JCIL to allow every individual to achieve maximum independence and to develop inclusive and liveable communities.
